So, it was about August of 2021... the left side of the body was not behaving properly, and now I was having speech problems. In the back of my head, I kept hearing Arnold Schwarzenegger's voice from the movie Kindergarten Cop saying, "It's not a tumor!"
Not really knowing what was going on, but knowing something was wrong, I made an appointment at UC San Francisco Neurology for a second look at my spine. Once I finally got to the specialist they took X-rays of everything, watched me walk and did an assessment of my records. The doctor at UCSF said the surgeon had done a great job on the spine fusion; however, yes something was definitely wrong. The doctor said mechanically, I was great, and there was probably something wrong neurologically.
Now you have to understand, for most of my life up until that point, I had been very healthy. I exercised regularly, jogged, I was not overweight, didn't smoke, the only time I took any medication was when I was sick. Well, that was about to come to a screeching fucking halt! I did graduate college; however, I was a criminal justice major, not smart enough for the medical world, I had no idea what the doctor meant, so I asked. The next few seconds of my life were about to change the rest of my future.
ME: What do you mean, neurologically?
DOCTOR: Something like A.L.S., M.S. or Parkinsons.......
Errrrrr...........Fuck. FUCK!
Ok, now, like I said, I avoided math classes in school like the plague, but I could do the math on that one. 33% chance (ALS) I was going to die a miserable death shortly, 33% (MS) chance I would have to suffer for years of loosing full control of my body, or 33% chance I had the old person shaky disease. Have you ever had your world set on its side? Felt like a cannon just went off right next to your head? Had you whole world shifted? Yeah, it was kinda like that.
I was referred to a Neurologist in Modesto and now had to wait and see.
Shit.......
